Relaxation and cutting-edge dental services come easy at Aksana’s North York studio, located in a quiet, spacious office conveniently across the road from popular Bayview Village Shopping Centre.
In Minimalist Chic style, the reception area, with a custom wood slate front desk and bacteria-resistant commercial-grade surfaces, opens onto a dazzling workspace and the owner’s office.
The Chroma Dental Project, designed by Fancy Interiors Studio, exemplifies a harmonious blend of functionality, innovation, and aesthetic appeal in a commercial medical environment. Led by designer Ksenia Berkovich, the project was meticulously executed from concept through to final completion, with every design detail thoughtfully curated to reflect the client’s brand philosophy: clean, innovative, and welcoming.
At the heart of the project is the custom-designed reception desk, which serves as the focal point of the symmetrical front area. Its unique yet timeless design is enhanced by the carefully integrated company logo, creating an immediate sense of professionalism and sophistication. The desk is framed by custom wood slats, accented with soft lighting, which subtly enhances the welcoming atmosphere of the space. The waiting area is designed with flexibility in mind; unfixed, soft seating allows for easy rearrangement, a crucial consideration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An integrated bar area, requested by the client, was strategically placed within the waiting room, leveraging psychological studies that suggest patients feel more comfortable accessing amenities like beverages when they are clearly available without needing to ask. This design element enhances the patient experience, promoting comfort and ease.
The clinic’s hallway is illuminated with recessed LED lighting, ensuring a clean, modern aesthetic while carefully considering the technical needs of the medical environment, such as avoiding interference with the x-ray-protected walls. A glass partition ensures visual continuity between the lab and other areas while maintaining medical compliance, balancing openness and privacy.
The manager’s and owner’s offices were designed to optimize ergonomics, daylight, and storage. Every inch of space was thoughtfully utilized, with clean lines and a clutter-free layout to support daily operational efficiency. From custom cabinetry to terrazzo flooring, each material was selected for its durability and compliance with both commercial and medical-grade standards.
Design details include:
- A light and warm color palette to visually expand the space and create a calming environment.
- Terrazzo-patterned floors and wall moldings that add texture and style.
- A lighting scheme that layers general, task, and accent lighting to create a functional yet visually appealing space.
- The standout feature of the space, the curved reception desk, made from modern planks, which is in perfect harmony with the sleek logo design.
In designing this space, the team aimed to reflect Chroma Dental’s core values: professionalism, innovation, order, and cleanliness, all while fostering an atmosphere that is welcoming and comforting to patients. Every decision, from the placement of the fridge and coffee table outside of the reception area to encourage patient autonomy, to the ergonomic design of office spaces, was rooted in enhancing the patient and staff experience. The project seamlessly marries the technical needs of a medical facility with the warmth and comfort of modern design.
